As Snowflake shifts to stronger security by replacing passwords with Service Users and keypair authentication, DataOps.live is here to help make this transition as smooth as possible for our customers. Here's an update on where we’re at and what to expect.
Key Updates
1. Strengthening Orchestrator Security
We’re actively working on implementing keypair authentication for those orchestrators connecting to Snowflake that do not already support it. This will ensure that automated workflows are more secure by using Service User accounts instead of traditional passwords. The shift will enhance security and reliability in orchestrations, and while this is still in development, we’re moving steadily towards full integration to support smooth and secure operations.
2. Service User Setup (Managed via SOLE)
Right now, Service Users can be managed through SOLE, the DataOps.Live orchestrator for managing your Snowflake configuration. While the setup process is a bit more manual, it’s fully functional. For those looking to streamline the experience, you can use a post hook within your workflow to automatically modify the user type to a Service User after it’s created. This small automation can make things more seamless and reduce the need for manual intervention.
Although setting up Service Users is a rare task for most customers, using this post hook approach will simplify the process even further. For more details on how to implement this, check out the updated SOLE documentation here.
What’s Next?
Our focus remains on finalizing the integration of keypair authentication for orchestrators, ensuring that all automated workflows are fully secured with Service User accounts. In parallel, we’ll continue to refine the Service User setup process to make it even smoother. As always, we’re here to assist with any questions or provide support as needed. Stay tuned for further updates as we move closer to completing these enhancements.
Let’s keep moving forward together!
