We’re excited to announce that, starting with the November release, all DataOps.Live orchestrators will be based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, an upgrade from the previous version, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. This update reflects our commitment to providing the most secure, reliable, and feature-rich environment for your data operations.

Why the Upgrade?

The primary motivation for this upgrade is to ensure continued support and security for the operating system and the underlying packages. Canonical will end support for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS in April 2025, which would mean no further updates or security patches for the OS packages beyond that date. Moving to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS extends that support until at least April 2029, giving you peace of mind that your data operations are running on a system that will continue to receive critical updates.

Key Benefits of the Upgrade

Upgrading the operating system brings several significant benefits that will enhance the overall performance, functionality, and security of the DataOps.Live platform.

  1. Support for Newer Python Versions
One of the standout improvements is the upgrade of Python from version 3.8 to 3.12. This shift opens up a world of possibilities, allowing users to leverage new Python features and making it easier to integrate libraries that no longer support older Python versions. If your workflows rely on the latest Python advancements or third-party packages, this is a game-changer.

  2. Upgraded Operating System Packages
With Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, many other OS-level packages have also been updated to newer versions. These updates bring with them improved performance, security, and functionality. The upgraded libraries and dependencies allow for smoother operation and better compatibility with newer tools and technologies, ensuring that your data pipelines continue to run efficiently and securely.

What This Means for You

As a DataOps.Live customer, this upgrade ensures that your orchestrators remain supported by the latest updates and security patches from Canonical, well into the future. It also means you can take advantage of the latest Python features and packages, ensuring that your data workflows remain modern and efficient.

While this transition has been designed to be seamless, we recommend that you review any custom Python code within your workflows to ensure compatibility with Python 3.12. Additionally, if you’re relying on any OS-level packages, it’s worth reviewing their updated versions to see if any new features or changes can benefit your data operations.

Looking Ahead

We’re always committed to improving the DataOps.Live platform, and this OS upgrade is just one step in ensuring that your data products and pipelines continue to evolve with the latest technology. As always, we welcome any feedback or questions you may have regarding this update, and our support team is ready to assist in making this transition as smooth as possible.

Thank you for your continued trust in DataOps.Live. We look forward to helping you make the most of this exciting new release!
